Here’s a rundown of the top 2021 Monaco Christmas events to help fill your calendar this December.
CHRISTMAS IN MONACO 1: THE FAUX-CHALET AT MONTE-CARLO BAY HOTEL AND RESORT
From the 3rd of December until the 4th of January, the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort is bringing the Christmas spirit to the patrons of its well-known bar. For one month, the bar known as ‘Blue Gin’ will be given a new name ‘L’Etoile des Neiges’ and will be entirely remodelled on the concept of mountain chalet chic. The space will be redesigned to evoke the best elements of the après-ski experience on a cold winter’s night. Log burning fires, chunky blankets, board games, eggnog and an entirely new menu, guests will feel transported away from the Mediterranean Sea to a cosy alpine mountainside.
Share gourmet Christmas dinners and drinks with your friends and family in the chalet this year. Open every day from mid-day, the bar will change its classic menu in homage to the high altitude theme. Afternoon tea will be served with a variety of Christmas teas, hot chocolates, and pastries and come evening, seasonal cocktails and a ‘mountain’ menu will be offered during the Christmas-themed aperitif. If you are looking to indulge a little more in the upcoming cold winter evenings, wrap up in your best mountain attire and head to the ‘Winter party’ at Blue Gin every Thursday of December where a live DJ will be playing. Blue Gin is dedicated to making this the Principality’s Can’t-miss event during the festive season.
CHRISTMAS IN MONACO 2: HOTEL DE PARIS’ CHRISTMAS VILLAGE
Experience the magic of a Monaco Christmas at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo. Every day from December 3rd, the courtyard of the grand palace plays host to a quaint Christmas village where tranquil luxury and exquisite pleasures combine. From delectable food and drinks, crafts, luxury shopping and shows, guests can truly immerse themselves in the Christmas spirit. For an intimate evening, guests are invited to indulge in the delicious treats cosied up in blankets in one of the secluded heated areas bordered by fir trees. Alternately, take part in one of the hotel’s 2-hour luxury-focussed workshops on a range of themes from cooking, floristry, drawing and Christmas craft.
Make sure to treat yourself to some shopping in the glasshouses this season. A real treat for unique and original gifts, the glasshouses boast some of the most magnificent pieces from designer Daniela Boutsen, artisan jeweller Atelier Paulin, contemporary jeweller Boloï Tanta and glass sculptor Nicolas Laty.
The Christmas events do not end here. Dine out in the glasshouse this festive season with your loved ones. As the nights draw in, the central glasshouse transforms into a pop-up fine dining restaurant where you’ll be able to enjoy a private dinner, complete with seasonal, unique and delicious menus. An exclusive and luxurious experience, get lost in the electro-jazz music and enjoy a meal under the stars on the central patio.
CHRISTMAS IN MONACO 3: MONACO CHRISTMAS MARKET AND VILLAGE
The most popular highlight for the residents and visitors in Monaco and Monte Carlo is its Christmas village and market. Located on the Esplanade Du Port Hercule, the Christmas market is designed to reflect mini-chalets. Filled with various stalls, you will be sure to find some culinary delights and unique gifts for your friends and family. In addition, bring in the festive season with some Champagne and nibbles after a few laps around the market’s ice-skating rink or warm up with some mulled wine while exploring the Enchanted Forest of 600 Christmas trees.
Particularly exciting for children, the market features a vintage carousel, a mini train, a ‘caribou ride’ merry-go-round and a ferris wheel that provides spectacular views of the new ‘Mareterra’ district. There will also be face painting, creative workshops and the chance to meet Santa Claus and his reindeer.
CHRISTMAS IN MONACO 4: THE PLACE DU CASINO
When the holiday season in Monaco officially begins, the streets are magnificently dressed. With the Place du Casino leading the way, a spectacular light and sound show will kick off the festive season. In true festive tradition, the Place du Casino will be illuminating the square with 100 white-flocked 30-ft-high Christmas trees, more than 6 kilometres of garlands and 600 bulbs. At the heart of the square will sit a grand Christmas tree over 18 metres high creating a place to celebrate, socialise and get into the Christmas spirit.
The Place du Casino is also the centre of special performances and gala dinners. Get dressed up in your best attire and experience some of the Principality’s finest artistry during the holiday season at the ballet. Incredible and emotive performances by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo: Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet and the Nutcracker will be shown for all of December.
With the Monaco Christmas season fast approaching, which festive event will you be attending this year?
